How Use Of Media affects your kids

Kids are soft at heart and mind too. Also, they grasp things very quickly. As we all know, 90% of brain growth happens before a child reaches 5 years of his age. This means early years of child development are very important, so these should be monitored carefully. Nowadays children are fond of using mobile phones and watching television. These are sources of entertainment for every one of us but then they are also affecting our lives to a great extent. Similarly, each and every content of these is not good for the kids. Parents should limit their children to use these sources of entertainment.

Let us learn how media affect our kids:

  • Bad for eyes: A Little of using gadgets including television is not harmful at all but too much screen time can be a bad thing. Watching television or watching cartoons on mobile phones for long can affect the eyes. Moreover, kids have more sensitive eyes than adults so such things should be avoided.
  • Violence: In video games, the hero often succeeds by fighting with or killing the enemy. This can lead to confusion when kids try to understand the difference between right and wrong. As a result, this may disturb the kids. Behaviour problems, nightmares, and difficulty sleeping may follow exposure to such violence. So it’s better to not let your kids view programs or play games that they find frightening.
  • Risky behaviours: TV and games on phones are full of content that shows risky behaviours such as drinking alcohol, doing drugs, smoking cigarettes, and having sex at a young age as cool, fun, and exciting. This makes behaviours like smoking and drinking alcohol seem acceptable and might lead to various issues related to behaviours.
  • Health: Various commercials are shown on television in which different-different health products been commercialized. Most of these products are not healthy to consume but kids start following the unhealthy diet. This is another powerful yet concerned reason why media should be avoided by the kids. Studies have also shown that decreasing the amount of TV kids watched led to less weight gain.

Above mentioned are the only few affects but in reality media plays crucial role in making kids lazy and helps learn bad habits. By setting healthy limits on screen time and knowing what your child is watching and playing, you can help make the most of your child’s media use. Media entertains but at the same time it indulges bad habits in the children. They start becoming a lazy and only stick to indoors.
