- Brushing teeth: Brushing teeth is the first step of basic hygiene when it come to your kids. You can begin brushing your baby’s teeth and gums the moment the first tooth pops up. They can brush their own teeth when they are about 3 years old. You should teach your kids the habit of brushing teeth twice a day.
- Bathing: By about age 5, they should be able to bath on their own. As they’re growing and you’re supervising bath time, you should take the opportunity to teach about washing all the different body parts.
- Washing hands before and after meals: Wipe your baby’s hands with a warm washcloth before mealtime, after eating, and after changing a diaper. Once they are 3 years old, teach them to wash hands before and after meals. Also, give them potty training and tell them the importance of washing hands.
- Nail trimming: As parents, we all clip our child’s nails when they’re a baby, but as they grow older, you can help them taking care for their own nails. Encourage your children to wash under their nails at each shower. Then, sit down with them weekly after a shower for a trim. Your nails are softer and clip more easily after a shower. By age 7, most children should be up for the task alone.
Good personal hygiene will help your kids stay healthy and fit. These habits result into less illnesses and hence giving your kid better health. Poor personal hygiene habits, however, can lead to some minor side effects like bad body odour and greasy skin.
